Emile Kerssemakers – Antiquarian Books

Sell books / We buy books

Looking to sell books? Kerssemakers Antiquariaat specialises in buying second-hand and antiquarian books, with a clear preference for academic and specialist libraries. If you are unsure, feel free to contact us: we provide free and honest advice.

Focus and preference

We are primarily interested in academic libraries, specialist collections and research libraries.

  • Theology, religion, philosophy and liturgy
  • History, art history and cultural studies
  • Classics, antiquity studies and archaeology
  • Social sciences and humanities

Books in all languages are welcome. We focus on content, coherence and quality. Fiction, popular literature and recent mass-market titles are generally not of interest.

Complete libraries and estates

We also handle complete libraries, scholarly estates and specialist collections. If needed, we can assess a collection on location. We work discreetly and with care.

Free and honest advice

Please note: a large share of offered books is not suitable for purchase. This is normal in the antiquarian trade.

That is why we provide free, non-binding advice on whether a collection is suitable, its realistic value (or limited market), and sensible alternatives if purchase is not possible. You will always receive an honest, content-based assessment.

How does it work?

  1. Send a short description of the books or collection.
  2. Add a few clear photos if possible. Overview photos are fine (e.g., several shelves at once), as long as the spines are reasonably readable.
  3. We review your offer and let you know whether there is interest.
  4. If we agree, we will make a proposal and arrange the next steps.

You can send your offer by email or WhatsApp. Large collections do not need to be fully inventoried in advance.
